2011 NRHA European Affiliate Championship Finals & SVAG CS Classic

A look at the open riders!
By Simona Diale
CS-Classic-logo-sfwIt’s no surprise that the best riders in Europe are making their way to the upcoming NRHA European Affiliate Championships (EAC) & SVAG CS Classic Show, which will be held at the CS Ranch on June 26- July 2. In 2010, the event was held for the first time at the Swiss facility. The prestigious “big money” SVAG CS Classic Open & Non Pro classes, approved by the NRHA, without a doubt contributed to the making of the 2010 NRHA World Champions.

sfw-open-cs-classic-021-BERNARD-FONCK-GREAT-SUN-BURST-ROY-DE-BRUIN Winning the 2010 SVAG CS Classic $30,000-added open, as well as the NRHA European Open Affiliate Championship last year, was the team of NRHA Professional Bernard Fonck and Roy De Bruin’s stallion Great Sun Burst. Their win in Switzerland added nearly $10,000 to their lifetime earnings, a major leap towards the NRHA Open World Championship they gained at the end of the show season! Fonck will hit the ground in Givrins once again this year along with his wife, past NRHA Open World Champion, Ann Fonck, also an NRHA Professional. The husband and wife team were also on Team Belgium, Silver Medalists at the 2010 Alltech® FEI World Equestrian Games (WEG).

Canadian NRHA Professional Cody Sapergia, now based in Italy, will also make the dirt fly at the CS Ranch. The talented rider, who boasts over $771,000 in NRHA competition, took reserve honors last year aboard 2008 NRHA Open World Champion stallion, Star Spangled Whiz owned by Fabrizio Bevilacqua.

Joining those who hit the winners circle last year will be a list of names we saw on last year’s WEG score boards in Lexington, Kentucky: Stefano Angelucci from Italy, NRHA Professional Cira Baeck from Belgium, Shauna Larcombe from Australia, Gregory Legrand of France, Grischa Ludwig from Germany and Rieky Young from the Netherlands. Last but not least, Italian Cristian Dalla Pozza who will be representing his country in the upcoming FEI European Reining Championships and Canadian trainer and NRHA Professional Clint Ramsey.

Nordic Reining Futurity Program

Welcome To A New Era In Reining
Reiningin uusi aikakausi Pohjoismaissa

Supported by SRHA, NRHAdk, NRHA Finland and Norwegian Reiners, the Nordic Reining Futurity Program is designed to promote and support reiners throughout the Nordic countries.

SRHA:n, NRHA.dk, NRHA Finlandin ja Norjan reinerit ovat yhdessä perustaneet Nordic Reining Futurity ohjelman edistämään ja tukemaan reiningiä kaikissa Pohjoismaissa.

The concept is simple: Nominate your horse for a one time fee and get four years of showing to compete for NRHA prize money and Trophies. A Futurity for 4 year old horses, a Derby for 5 & 6 year olds and even a Maturity for 7 year olds.

This concept has been a huge success with the NRHA European Futurity but it relies heavily on the support of breeders, owners, Non Pro's and trainers to nominate enough horses into the program. Browse through the homepage and find all the details about the program and find out the incentives for you to nominate your horse today.

vuodesta 2016
- kilpailu on vain  ohjelmaan maksetuille hevosille.

2011 NRHA European Affiliate Championship Qualifiers from Finland

As the show season moves on, European reiners are making arrangements to move on the beautiful CS Ranch in Givrins, Switzerland, where the 2011 NRHA European Affiliate Championship will be held on June 29 - July 2. Due to the extraordinary success of the SVAG CS Classic in the past years, the National Reining Horse Association will be hosting the EAC here both in 2010 and 2011, during the SVAG CS Classic itself. This years’ event will therefore be extended from 3 to 7 days, with around 200 horses from all over Europe expected to compete.

“We are very proud to be able to host the NRHA European Affiliate finals this year. Our goal is to make the riders feel comfortable at our Ranch, giving them the opportunity to show under the best possible conditions. In the past editions of the CS Classic this was achieved and we look forward to doing the same in this years’ show”, said host, Corinna Schumacher.

EHV-1 (Equine Herpesvirus) outbreak in USA, but Shows Will Go On

Many horse owners are aware of the recent cases of Equine Herpesvirus (EHV-1) that have occurred in several states after the National Cutting Horse Association’s Western Nationals in Ogden, Utah.

The NRHA (National Reining Horse Association) has had multiple discussions with the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture and Acting Oklahoma State Veterinarian Mike Herrin in regards to plans for upcoming shows. After evaluating all current information on the equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) and under advice of Dr. Herrin, all Oklahoma shows should proceed as scheduled.

The Oklahoma State Veterinary Office and Oklahoma State Fair Park management are cooperating to insure that every possible measure is taken to prevent such an outbreak from occurring in Oklahoma City. The Fair Park is disinfecting each stall after every show prior to introduction of new animals. They are also providing an isolation area, in the event a fever or neurologic symptoms develop, in order to separate any horse while at the facility. The Oklahoma State Veterinary office, in conjunction with the Oklahoma Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (OADDL), are gearing up to provide rapid test results of samples submitted for EHV-1 testing.

“In addition to our normal thorough cleaning procedures, we have been in close contact with and are following all recommendations from the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture (Commissioner Jim Reece) and the Acting State Veterinarian, Dr. Michael Herrin,” stated Oklahoma State Fair, Inc. President & CEO Tim O’Toole. “We are also working closely with all of our equine show promoters to make sure that they are aware of what precautions we are taking to prevent the potential spread of EHV-1 at State Fair Park. We anticipate that the horse shows scheduled for the rest of the summer will go on as planned.”

Several of these owners are taking additional precautionary steps before heading down the road to compete. Horse owners should be cognizant of the situation but also be aware of the facts regarding the virus. The EHV outbreak has only affected horses attending two events and horses directly exposed to that group upon returning home. The two events are the NCHA Western National Championship in Utah and the Kern County Cutting Horse Event in California. Affected and exposed horses in all states are under state quarantine or movement restrictions.

The Oklahoma Quarter Horse Association Redbud Spectacular is slated to begin May 31, at State Fair Park in Oklahoma City where they are expecting over 800 horses over a 12-day period. The Expo Square facility in Tulsa is also getting geared up for the Pinto World Championship Show June 7-18 and looking to host over 1200 horses representing over 35 states.

Acting State Veterinarian, Dr. Michael Herrin recommends horse owners and event managers remain at a heightened level of awareness, consider the current facts of the situation, and make an informed decision based upon actual risk. Events in Oklahoma that host horses of an unrelated type have no increased risk of disease exposure now than before this incident began. There have been no changes in import regulations and no recommended event cancellations issued by the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry (ODAFF).

The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry (ODAFF) encourages horse owners to implement and practice proper preventative measures. ODAFF also encourages horse owners to consult their local veterinarian for review and advice on an appropriate vaccination schedules for EHV.
